Interview with Jenny Sharaf

Here’s my interview with an artist I really admire, Jenny Sharaf:

Gone Cat: Who are some artists whom you admire?
Jenny Sharaf: I think choosing to be a full time artist is a difficult life, so I admire anyone who is out there and doing it, being vulnerable and getting their work seen. More specifically, I totally admire Jen Stark, Koak, Austyn Weiner, Maysha Mohamedi, Sahar Khoury, Ariana Papademetropoulos

GC: What is your favorite city and why?
JS: Tokyo without a doubt. It is such a special place unlike anywhere else. Also there is an obvious respect for the past, but a full embrace of the future, so that combination makes me for interesting moments. I’m completely addicted to going there, planning on returning next month for the cherry blossoms.

GC: What’s your favorite museum in that city?
JS: The Mori Art Museum or National Art Center. I saw Yayoi Kusama’s retrospective there last year.
It was beyond incredible. No shock there.  Otherwise, Naoshima Island has some great museums if you get a chance to leave Tokyo.

GC: A recent exhibit you viewed there that inspired you?
JS: The Rauschenberg show at SF MOMA was wonderful. When I was in New York last month, I saw the Hockney exhibition.
Seeing those paintings in the flesh felt very important.

GC: If you could have a dinner party for any 3 artists who would you choose? What would you serve for dinner?
JS: John Baldessari. Louise Bourgeois and Jonas Wood. That sounds fun. This is a hard question. We’d probably go out to eat.
Otherwise, I’d have my boyfriend, John, cook a fabulous meal.

Check out her beautiful work!
