Le Citizen Hotel – Paris

By William Reed

Nestled on the corner of Quai de Jemmapes and Rue de Lancry in the 10th Arrondissement, adjacent from the romantic backdrop of the Canal St. Martin, lies a renewed building which boasts one of the most notable boutique hotels in Paris’ 10th Arrondissement.

Upon entrance to Le Citizen Hotel via the charming doorway just beyond the bustling sidewalk guests are greeted by a jovial “Bonjour” along with a warm smile and the inviting smell of fresh brewed coffee. It’s not often hotel guests are greeted by the owner of the establishment, so when Sophie welcomed me with her personal touch of hospitality including a Parisian breakfast which included just-baked and still-warm croissants, fresh squeezed orange juice, yogurt, fruits and coffee, I immediately felt at home.

After a quick chat about the weather and global going-ons I was shown to my corner-unit room located on the sixth floor. Upon entrance to my room I was immediately seduced by views of the Canal St. Martin and a sweeping panorama of the Parisian skyline.

At over 160 square feet, my room was spacious, bright, clean, comfortable, tastefully appointed and quiet. The queen sized bed layered in lush, down pillows and duvet were heavenly and provided immediate respite after a long international journey.
Paris–and Europe in general–are notorious for their smaller sized bathrooms by American standards. So I was immediately pleased by the sheer size and spaciousness of the of the bathroom which included an oversized shower which included a state-of-the-art multi-system rainfall shower head, plush towels, robe and slippers, hairdryer, complimentary beauty product assortment and separate toilet room.

Also provided to all guests with compliments during their stay are Ipads and Wifi which came in handy for directions and research before embarking on my Parisian adventures.

Le Citizen Hotel is in relatively close proximity to many of the amazing sights and historic points of interest Paris has to offer including Pere-Lachaise Cemetery–resting place to Jim Morrison, Chopin and Colette, Sacre-Coeur, Pompidou Centre, Notre Dame, and Gare du Nord to name a few.

And getting there from Le Citizen Hotel couldn’t be easier. The Metro is a quick 15 minute walk away and from there, will connect you to anywhere in the city and beyond, including the Palace of Versailles. For those feeling adventurous, there is a Velib–Paris’ large-scale public bicycle sharing system offering with more than 7,000 bikes available city-wide–located across the street from Le Citizen. For those in a hurry, Uber (including Uber Pool) is available in Paris.

When staying in Paris there are many options to choose from. For those looking for a quaint and charming experience in a comfortable and safe boutique hotel off the beaten path at an affordable price, Le Citizen Hotel is the perfect option.
